Fabric Care
We want your silk to last a life time, so here is a little guide on how to care for them.
Silk is one of the most luxurious materials in the world. Unlike synthetic or plant-based alternatives, silk is a protein fiber (the same material that makes up human hair) which gives it a uniquely soft, skin-friendly quality and a natural temperature-regulating effect.
Production Process of Silk
Silk is made from silkworm cocoons, which spin fine, continuous fibers from natural protein. These cocoons are harvested and carefully unraveled to produce long filaments, which are then twisted, dyed, and woven into fabrics. The quality of silk is measured in momme, a Japanese unit indicating fabric weight and density. Luné uses 22-momme silk, which is considered the ideal balance of softness and durability.
Care
Silk is delicate, but with proper care, it will maintain its natural luster and luxurious feel for years.
To machine wash:
- Use a delicate or silk cycle with cold water.
- Choose a mild, pH-neutral detergent (no bleach or fabric softener).
- Place the item in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from friction.
- Avoid tumble drying. Instead, hang or lay flat to air dry, away from direct sunlight.
To hand wash:
- Use cold water and a gentle silk detergent.
- Lightly agitate, then rinse thoroughly in cold water.
- Roll in a clean towel to remove excess water (do not wring or twist).
- Reshape and lay flat or hang to dry naturally.
Ironing & Steaming:
- We recommend using a steamer for best results. Gentle steam relaxes wrinkles without flattening the silk’s natural sheen. Hang immediately after steaming to let it dry and drape beautifully.
- If using an iron, set it to the lowest heat setting. Turn the item inside out and place a clean cloth between the iron and the fabric for protection.
- Avoid applying heat directly over the embroidered logo area.
